What started as one of those email chain scams reported on Snopes.com has now become a true movement thanks to Lloyd (Doc) Hofmeister. Doc Hofmeister is a former Marine who served in Vietnam. He knows what it is like when troops feel they have no support at home and morale is low. In fact, when he returned from the war he went through a period when he was ashamed of his service. He says his biggest hope is “that none of our armed forces will ever have to go through that again.” This is what led him and his business partners to take what was just an idea floating around the web and turn it into RedShirtFridays.org.
The mission of RedShirtFridays.org is to show support for our servicemen and servicewomen and therefore increase their morale. Their goal is to get everyone in America to wear red shirts each Friday. Why red? R.E.D. stands for Remember Everyone Deployed and as their tagline says “They bleed red, so we wear red.”
The RedShirtFridays.org web site helps demonstrate this support. Groups can posts pictures of their participation in R.E.D. Fridays as well as post pictures and messages to loved ones who are currently deployed or who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving.
Our team has pledged their support and has started to wear red each Friday. Check out pics of us rockin’ our red and grab your own RED shirt (or one for your favorite little person) so you can show your support. Share yours on RedShirtFridays.org and on our Facebook page.
