Today is the sixth annual Giving Tuesday – a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration between nonprofits, businesses, corporations, as well as families and individuals. It’s a holiday tradition inspired by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, but with a philanthropic twist.

Celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season. It harnesses the influence of social media in conjunction with the generosity of people all over the world to bring real change to our communities. Last year, online donations to non-profits totaled nearly $180 million! We are proud to be a part of this caring and empowering global movement that unites countries around.

We love giving back to the military community by supporting organizations that align with our brand mission and heritage. One major element of our philanthropy is the flight team we sponsor, The Warrior Flight Team. They’re a non-profit whose mission is to bring rewarding career opportunities to those who have served their country and sacrificed tremendously in the process. They aim to help veterans return to a productive work life and solid economic citizenship. We finance scholarships for wounded veterans through The Warrior Flight Team. We also fund and participate in five air shows including Manassas, Youngstown, and Geneseo. In addition, some of the proceeds from our exclusive Playboy and Fear the Bones jackets goes directly to The Warrior Flight Team. We love working with them!

Another crucial aspect of our philanthropic efforts is our work with Has Heart. They’re a Michigan-based nonprofit organization that pairs veterans with artists and designers in order to tell their unique stories through the mediums of art, design, and fashion. Their mission is to provide a therapeutic creative outlet for veterans while enlisting the creative community in order to utilize their talents to serve. Currently, they are on a 50-state tour to help further connect veterans and creatives by linking the cities and homes they reside in. We are sponsoring five states along during they’re journey. Furthermore, we’ve developed a Has Heart capsule of patches and tees with a portion of the proceeds going to the Has Heart organization to continue to support disabled veterans. Has Heart does a fantastic job of giving back to the military community!

A third organization that we have partnered with is Our Military Kids. OMK is an organization that provides support and recognition to military children via grants for enrichment activities. This includes children, ages 3 years through the 12th grade, of deployed National Guard members, Army Reserve members, and children of wounded and fallen warriors from all other branches of service. We help out by financing grants for enrichment activities, sponsoring our military kids night of stars gala, and inviting OMK families to Alpha sponsored events like the Manassas air show. This past April, some of our jacket proceeds went to Our Military Kids for the Month of the Military Child. Working with Our Military Kids has been one of our most rewarding collaborations.

The fourth facet of our philanthropy is our work with the American Red Cross. The Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. They aspire to turn compassion into action so that all members of our armed services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed. We sponsor the local DC chapter gala with a donation and a one-of-a-kind leather jacket that will be auctioned off to benefit the Red Cross. In addition, our employees volunteer their time at events such as the Winterhaven to support homeless vets. We’re happy to support the phenomenal work of the American Red Cross.

Philanthropy is a key pillar of who we are as a brand, which is why we’re grateful for the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact in the military community.
