Alpha Industries | Year in Review

As the year comes to close, we want to take the time to reflect back on some our favorite moments from 2017. It has been an extremely exciting year for us as a brand! We’ve collaborated with other high-profile brands such as Public School New York, G.I. Joe, and Stutterheim. We held and participated in special events and activations like Complex Con and Art Basel Miami. However, we’ve also continued to give back to the military community through partnerships with great organizations like HasHeart. There were a lot of significant moments throughout the year, so we’ll highlight some of the best ones.

Kicking things off, we have our partnership with HasHeart, an organization that focuses on telling the stories of veterans through the mediums of art, design, and fashion. They’re currently on a 50 state tour of the United States where they are pairing 50 veterans with 50 artists in order to create unique designs representative of each veteran’s story. We are sponsoring five states along their journey, and we’ve developed a Has Heart capsule of patches and tees with a portion of the proceeds going to the Has Heart organization to continue to support disabled veterans. We love working with such an outstanding organization, and we plan on continuing our partnership in the new year!

Next up, let’s talk a bit more about some of our top collaborations. One of our favorite collaborative jackets from this year was our Alpha Industries x Public School New York MA-1. We linked up with Public School because they produce designs that reflect a new age of young, irreverent American designers. They really focus on fabric, fit and attitude. The reversible jacket featured a straightforward PSNY-branded patch, Public School’s signature “We Need Leaders” embroidery, and a shoulder carrying strap which gives the wearer another more unique way to rock the jacket. When the jacket released, we help a special launch event in New York City with Public School – check it out below!

Another cool collaboration we did was with Swedish outerwear brand, Stutterheim. The capsule collection mixed our brand’s iconic silhouettes with Stutterheim’s trademark 530g rubberized cotton fabric. We dropped three military styles — the MA-1 Bomber, the M-65 Fishtail Parka and the N-3B Weather Parka which were all given a Stutterheim remake.

A third interesting collaboration we did this year was our G.I. Joe L-2B Flight Jacket where we joined forces with Hasbro and Bait. This lightweight jacket features a matte nylon shell with a nylon lining that is reversible to a G.I. Joe pop-art graphic print. We also helped create a collectible of G.I. Joe Duke wearing a mini version of the jacket!

We also collaborated with popular hip-hop artists, DJ’s, and producers like Post Malone, Jauz, and Metro Boomin. One of our favorites was our “Set It Off Tour” jackets for Metro Boomin. In August, Metro embarked on the “Set It Off Tour” alongside singer Bryson Tiller. In collaboration with Metro, his label, and the “Set It Off Tour”, we did custom jackets for him and his crew. They feature the “Set It Off Tour” logo on the back, and the Boominati Worldwide pyramid on the front. We even met up with him at his tour stop in Vienna, VA to hand deliver the bombers and watch his performance!

Besides all of our collaborations, we took part in some of the biggest industry events like Complex Con and Art Basel. Complex Con, an expertly curated convention and festival, is a two-day celebration of our culture. This year, we had own booth where we sold exclusive styles in some of our most iconic jackets. We also did a special collaboration with Pintrill for this year’s #GoodTrillHunting!

For Art Basel, Hypebeast held a private dinner to honor 100 of the top innovators who continuously push the boundaries of culture. Each of the 100 recipients received a tote bag that included a special edition M-59 Fishtail Parka that which featured the HB100 logo as well as a special HB100 flight tag. Check it out below!

To round out 2017, we decided to link up with Jeff Carvalho, Highsnobiety’s own managing director, who knows a thing or two about military surplus gear. He is taking us around the country to find rare Alpha surplus gear that you’ll probably never see again. Through a four-part Youtube video series, Jeff is going to reveal some of his top surplus spots as well as some of his best finds. Check out the first video here!

2017 has been an amazing year! We’re glad you guys have been along for the ride, and we can’t wait to show you what is in store for 2018. Happy New Years from all of us at Alpha Industries!

  1. Happy New Year to all of you at Alpha Industries for the phenomenal products you make! One of my kids introduced me to your line of winter coats last year and I bought a coat that has withstood the chilly temps we have been experiencing in NY.
I didn’t think to say much of my purchase initially and put the coat away. With winter kicking us in the teeth this year, I’ve come to realize what a gem I bought from you.
I’m posting this to say a huge thank you for the best cold weather coat I’ve ever owned. Keep up the great work and here’s to more successes in 2018!
